Het Westers Economisch Forum in Davos
Naar jaarlijkse gewoonte is de wereldelite weer voor een lang weekend verzameld in Davos, hoog in de Zwitserse Alpen, voor het Wereld Economisch Forum (WEF). Het WEF is volgens zichzelf ‘de vooraanstaande globale gemeenschap van zakenlui, politici, intellectuelen en andere leiders uit de samenleving die toegewijd zijn aan het verbeteren van de toestand van de wereld.’
The World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2013, taking place in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland on 23-27 January, will convene under the theme “Resilient Dynamism”.

Interessante aanvulling hierop (waar mijn oog later op viel) :
Binnengeraken op het WEF is geen kwestie van simpelweg een ticketje kopen. Het evenement is invitation only en behalve voor een selectie journalisten, academici, religieuze leiders, sociale ondernemers en mensen uit de ngo-wereld kost een deelname aan het WEF volgens CNN zo’n 40.000 dollar, waarvan de helft opgaat aan lidmaatschap van het WEF zelf, een Zwitserse non-profit organisatie.
Van de 2.654 personen op de officiële gastenlijst komen er 1.726 uit de zakenwereld, goed voor 65 procent van de deelnemers. Een op vier van de deelnemers draagt als titel Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Het overwicht van de zakenwereld is dus duidelijk.
Onder deze zakenlui bevinden zich ook heel wat bankiers en mensen uit de financiële sector. Grote banken als Goldmans Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, Deutsche Bank en Citigroup sturen elk een delegatie van zes of zeven mensen uit naar Davos. BNP Paribas vaardigt twee personen af.
Met een gastenlijst die vandaag nog bestaat uit voornamelijk Angelsaksische en Zwitserse zakenmensen, zal het WEF niet af geraken van zijn imago van rijkemannenclub. Het ziet zichzelf graag als ‘een uniek platform om vooruitgang te boeken in enkele van de grootste problemen waar de wereld vandaag mee te kampen heeft’, maar hiervoor lijkt een grotere vertegenwoordiging van opkomende machten en niet-zakenlui zeker nodig.

For all those in search of enlightenment, the opposite of enlightenment=…taxation.
Of in het nederlands, het tegenovergestelde van verlichting=..belasting.
We hoeven verlichting dus niet meer te zoeken in het spirituele domein, laten we ons allen verlichten door onszelf minder te (laten) belasten.
Bewustwording is de eerste stap nietwaar?
